My birthday present from Bretton.  He got my fanfiction made into a book for me.  He’s really out-done himself with this one.  Needless to say, I teared the fuck up.

Quick Sherlock sketch based on Phyona’s The Temper Between based on this scene:
Sherlock had bundled himself from head to knee in his absurdly billowy white down duvet. John could just barely make out the glistening refraction of two eyes peeking out from between the folds. The sheer ridiculousness of the image was enough to shock John out of an appropriate reaction.
“You look like a pastry,” he observed dreamily, sending himself into a fit of giggles.
Even without being able to distinguish Sherlock’s features in the dim light, John knew he was being glared at.

I LOVE IT SO MUCH!  I have been secretly pining for someone to fanart that scene AND HERE IT IS!  It’s perfect.  Absolutely perfect.  I love pastry!Sherlock, I really do.  (AND I LOVE YOU TOO)

If we could fly out that window hand in hand, hover over this great city, gently remove the roofs, and peep in at the queer things which are going on, the strange coincidences, the plannings, the cross-purposes, the wonderful chains of events, working through generation, and leading to the most outre results, it would make all fiction with its conventionalities and foreseen conclusions most stale and unprofitable. Sherlock Holmes to John Watson, A Case of Identity, romance novel short story

Had a really successful writing / pokemon / rehearsal day!  Sooooo you know what that means:  ‘The First Trip’ update will be posted soon!

Monday, December 31, 2012

Okay, so this is what my dear boyfriend, Bretton, gave me for Christmas this year.   It took me a moment to realize what it was upon opening, but once I did I was absolutely speechless.  In case you haven’t worked it out yet, the guy took a selection of my fanfiction reviews and turned them into a 221B poster.  “It’s so you’ll always have something to remind you what a good writer you are when you’re feeling down.” Needless to say, I had something in my eye.

Um…also…I gave him a pokemon game for Christmas (*feels shame*)…I think we all know who won this round.  Until next year, Bretton…

By the grace of Thor, my father actually requested to be shown ‘A Study in Pink’ tonight. As a Sherlockian who has not seen the episode in about a month, I tried approaching it with a clean, johnlock-free slate…but then…

My dad: Wow, John and Sherlock are really gay.

Me: I know, you have no idea, but aren’t you loving the plot?

My dad: Of course, it’s marvelous, but there’s just so much sexual tension.

Me: Woah, wait, really? You really think so?

My dad: Duh. (he is an actual a 9 year old)

Me: It’s supposed to be subtextual.

My dad:  Subtextual?  Are you joking?  This is way beyond subtext.  They’re clearly soulmates.  Does anyone really not think that?  Fucking idiots.

Me: Father, you have no idea how indescribably happy you have made me.

Ohhhhh dear

Just got this review on ‘The Last Drop’ and I must say, this one evokes quite a variety of conflicting emotions.  Aside from being extremely flattered by the compliments to ‘The Last Drop’, I’m afraid to admit that it has been my fear this whole time that people find ‘The First Trip’ to be an unnecessary extension of the story.  So much of this series revolves around UST that I’m worried that now that they are finally together it’s not as interesting anymore.  You guys can be honest with me, I promise.  Is this something a lot of people feel but aren’t telling me?

Expect a ‘The First Trip’ update today!

‘Tis just about done!  I have to say, this was by far the most challenging chapter I’ve written in this series as yet.  Had me firing on all cylinders.  Also, I may have ACCIDENTALLY written in a Teen Wolf joke.  I don’t know how it happened.  Put down the wine, Phy…you’ve had too much.

Ok.  The reason I’m posting this is not for some kind of self-gratification or personal flattery over someone commending my writing.  I’m posting this because I think it’s important for you readers/reviewers to know what a message like this means to a humble, nobody writer like me.  As soon as my eyes met these words, I began tearing up.  When you have nothing, no published works or critical acclaim validating your craft, this email becomes absolutely priceless.  This says to me “you are not wasting your time,” “you are not a failure,” “someone values what you do.”  Fellow writers know exactly what I’m talking about.  As a writer, you are bombarded with criticism, cynicism, and judgement.  You are expected to bomb.  Yes, okay, this is merely a compliment on my fanfiction, which, to many people, is nothing more than an exercise in frivolity.  But to me, it’s something more.  It’s something I’ve worked very hard on, something I’ve poured my soul and my style into, something I’m very passionate about.  And hey, guess what, someone liked it.  Do you guys have any idea what that kind of validation means to me?  Well, I’ll tell you: it means everything.  Everything.  So, thank you, so very, very much to those of you who kindly review.
You give a writer a reason to write, and that, my dears, is one of the most precious gifts in the world.

Hmmmmm….alright here we go:
Back in the Day: Lots of drug-abusing Sherlock and slightly-alcoholic John against the backdrop of a University AU.  Has some really incredible moments and takes you through their relationship, in both trials and successes, in an engaging way.  Also, I remember finding it pretty funny in parts.
Northwest Passage: This one has been going around a lot lately but that’s because it’s absolutely worth a read.  Isolation in Canada, PTSD, and some VERY romantic dialogue.  I was actually clandestinely crying and swooning at work as I read one particular part, and it was awkward (/I was awkward).
Eccentric: Looooots of masturbation smut.  An interesting take on Sherlock’s sexuality and how John fits into that.  But yeah, mostly smut.
Bedtime Stories: A classic.  Hilarious and sweet and if you haven’t read it, get your butt in gear.  ‘Tis lovely.
Close to Home: Here!  Have some BDSM, sub!Sherlock porn! #ridingcrop #whatwhat
Off on the Wrong Foot: Hilarious with great progression and some fighting sex.
Dilaudid: Alright, as a warning, this is Alpha/Beta/Omega verse, and while everyone seems to insist they don’t read this shit, hits don’t lie (I’m just sayin’).  This one isn’t really about that whole business so much as it’s about John Watson being an awesome character and Sherlock being confusing.  Author’s been updating more of late (THANK GOD) so I feel less bad passing on this WIP.
A Study in Ludus: Ok, so this is a brutal WIP and I’m sorry, but it’s so damn good I just had to share.  University AU in which student!Moriarty challenges student!Sherlock to seduce professor!John. Progression is slow and brutal.  Angst is imminent.
That’s the best I have for the moment, so I hope it helps!.  Of course, I could rec more but you’ve probably read them since you’re an avid Johnlock fic lover.  As for me, when I say that I have read an OBSCENE quantity of Sherlock fanfiction, I am not fucking joking.  It’s…incriminating, to say the very least.  And yet, for all that I’ve read, I’ve never come across a mafia!AU.  That is such a damn good idea I can see why you’re on the prowl for one.  I’ll keep my eyes open.  Truth be told, of late I’ve been predominantly reading Sterek and Cherik fics, so if you want some recs for those bad boys I have quite the list.  Especially for Cherik.  Thanks for thinking of me for some recs!  Always happy to help.
